What supply teaching actually involves
Supply cover is driven mainly by staff absence: sickness, training, maternity leave and the occasional unfilled vacancy. It ranges from a single day covering a class at short notice, to a term-long placement while a teacher is away, to a long term contract that turns permanent.
People choose supply for different reasons. Some want the flexibility, some want to see a range of schools before committing, and some are early career teachers building experience while they look for a permanent post. All three work, and we will tell you straight which pattern fits what you have said you want.
What it is not
It is not a guaranteed timetable, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What we can promise is that we have work available every day, and that the more you keep us posted on your availability, the more we can put your way.
How we work
The practical terms, stated plainly.
Paid weekly, no registration fee
Paid by BACS every Friday, a week in arrears. Tax, National Insurance and holiday pay handled for you, with holiday pay paid termly. There is no joining or registration fee, ever.
You set the days
From half a day a week up to five days, a term or longer. You choose, and you can change it.
A named consultant
Not a call centre. One person who learns your name, your strengths and how far you will travel.
Fully vetted before you start
Enhanced DBS, references and identity checks. Thorough, but it means you are ready to work.
Travel you agree to
At interview you tell us the authorities or the distance. We work inside it.
Training included
Annual accredited professional development, plus recommended online CPD courses.

How much will I earn on supply?
Rates depend on your qualifications and experience, and the exact figure is confirmed to you in writing during your interview. We would rather tell you a real number in person than advertise a headline rate few people get.
How often am I paid?
Weekly, in arrears, on a Friday by BACS directly into your bank account.
Can I work for more than one agency?
Yes. If you do, work out which agency is getting you the most work and make sure the tax office has that one registered as your main employer.
Does it cost anything to register?
No. There is no joining fee and no registration fee.
Can I work part time?
Yes. Placements range from half a day a week up to five days, a term or longer, and you decide how many days you want.
Are travel expenses paid?
Not as a rule, though at our discretion we can sometimes help towards a particularly long journey.
