About the Role

We are working with a welcoming primary school in Runcorn that is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated SEND team from September.

This rewarding role involves providing tailored 1:1 support for two pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), with the majority of your time spent supporting a Year 6 pupil with autism and significant Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) traits. Support will be delivered through shorter, structured sessions across the school day, following recommendations from the Educational Psychologist to maximise engagement and wellbeing.

This is an excellent opportunity for a compassionate, experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about helping children with additional needs thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised 1:1 support for two pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition.

  • Deliver autism-friendly strategies to promote engagement, learning and emotional regulation.

  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction and independence.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals.

  • Adapt support throughout the day to meet changing pupil needs.

  • Provide support for other pupils across the school when required.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Significant experience supporting children with autism within a primary school.

  • A strong understanding of autism-friendly approaches and best practice.

  • Experience supporting pupils with PDA traits or demand-avoidant behaviours.

  • Confidence managing behaviours positively using a calm and consistent approach.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Patience, resilience and flexibility in a dynamic school environment.

  • Previous experience in a 1:1 Teaching Assistant role.
