ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL - SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND DISABILITY CO- ORDINATOR

Options for Assistant Principal applications

-            Based in Bradford

-            Years 7 to 11

-            Salary:

o   Paid to scale up to UPS3

o   Assistant Principal applications, salary on offer up to £60,000

OBJECTIVE:

ABOUT YOU:

 

-            Degree in relevant subject 2.2 or above

-            Qualified Teacher Status

-            Must have/currently working towards SENCO qualification

-            Evidence of Continuous Professional Development

-            Track record of delivering ‘outstanding’ teaching

-            Experience of:

o   Using of data to plan and implement intervention strategies to raise academic performance

o   Managing where pupils with Special Educational Needs or vulnerable groups were included

o   Working with external agencies

o   Managing of people and team of professionals within a school setting

o   Using of data to plan and implement intervention strategies to raise academic performance

o   Developing and leading strategies to sustain whole school improvement

o   Leading the delivery of coaching and INSET sessions to support the professional development of others

-            Able to teach to GCSE standard

-            A good, up to date working knowledge of the SEND code of practice and its practical application

-            Ability to coach and motivate professionals, individually and within groups, to achieve individual and collective targets

-            Ability to develop and disseminate effective learning and teaching support strategies

-            Knowledge of effective intervention strategies to raise attainment

-            Ability to set clear targets, track and manage progress and develop strategies to achieve desired outcomes

-            Knowledge of the EHCP process and the evidence needed, and the funding support mechanisms

-            Ability to use ICT and technology in the classroom to deliver engaging lessons and monitor pupil progress effectively

-            Highest levels of professional and personal integrity

-            A passionate belief in inclusive education

 

DESIREABLE BUT NOT ESSENTIAL:

 

-            Middle or Senior Management qualification

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.            Develop and oversee the implementation of the school's SEND strategy and policy

2.            Provide advice, guidance, instructional coaching and practice clinics for classroom teachers on  supporting pupils with SEND to make exceptional progress

3.            Carry out assessments of pupils with SEND

4.            Identify needs and put strategies in place to overcome their barriers to learning

5.            Monitor progress

6.            Observations in the classroom

7.            Meeting with all stakeholders

8.            Provide regular updates on pupil progress through written reports and meetings with parents

9.            Develop and maintain systems for keeping pupil records

10.         Ensure that all programmes of support are evidence-based and research informed with carefully monitored success criteria

11.         Ensure that the ability to read never prevents any pupil from accessing and enjoying the full curriculum

12.         Work in partnership with the Principal, Senior Leadership Team, Local Governing Body, Trust, staff, pupils and parents to determine the strategic development of SEND policy and provision in the academy

13.         Provide outstanding strategic and operational leadership of all areas of responsibility

14.         Performance manage staff with respect to all areas of responsibility for pupils; through regular meetings, setting of appropriate targets for performance, providing support and challenge and undertaking regular reviews for feedback

15.         Lead the reading intervention and support aspects of our book culture

16.         Develop and deliver the SEND Policy of the academy, ensuring that the Code of Practice is implemented in full. This includes, but is not limited to, any statutory provision, policies, responses to consultation, Access Arrangements and the Annual Review process

17.         Responsible for the strategic overview of EAL

18.         Lead the recruitment of support staff to enhance support of pupils with special educational needs

19.         Lead on the provision for children with medical needs within the academy

20.         Strategic lead of the Academy’s designated SEND budget to ensure effective curriculum access for SEND pupils
