We are delighted to be working in partnership with a Leeds based secondary school who are seeking to appoint a professional and hard-working DT Technician to join their team in working within a dynamic DT department. With previous experience, you will be able to support students who are working with various tools and materials, ensuring high levels of health and safety are maintained whilst students are using DT equipment.

 

About the job:

 

  • DT Technician working in the Design Technology Team
  • Supporting the Head of Design and Technology
  • Preparing teaching materials and tools/equipment as needed
  • Photographing of students’ work using digital equipment and creating PC files for students
  • Helping students that require additional support
  • Correct and safe use of equipment
  • Set up and supervise the use of specialist equipment
  • Using the vinyl cutter and laser cutter
  • Testing new ideas to support the curriculum development of DT
  • Writing and producing instruction sheets, worksheets, visual aids and exemplars
  • Carry out clerical duties on Word and Edexcel
  • Ordering stock and buying resources
  • Logging equipment requests  

 

About you:

 

  • Previous experience working in a secondary school environment as a DT Technician
  • Experience in Design Technology (Product Design and Resistant Materials)
  • Able to provide educational wellbeing and support needs
  • Act as a role model and set high expectations
  • Able to monitor and check all equipment for safety
  • Excellent team player skills
  • Proficient in using Word and Excel

  • Work collaboratively with, colleagues, pupils, their parents/carers, and internal stakeholders including colleagues within the Trust

About the role:

 

  • Make and co-ordinate referrals made to multi-agencies and, where appropriate, act as the Early Help Lead Professional in professionals’ meetings.
  • Prepare reports for and attend CiN, Child Protection and Core Group meetings involving children from the school as required.
  • Attend and participate in Child Protection meetings/conferences and Planning and Review meetings, (multi-disciplinary meetings and Common Assessment Framework), whilst working closely with colleagues in Children’s Services/the Local Safeguarding Board as required, some of which may take place outside of normal working hours.
  • Make referrals and contribute information for professional assessments of need and risk (S17 and S47 reports) in respect of parents by using Local Authority procedures.
  • Prepare case information / data packs as required, including but not limited to; exclusion cases, behaviour & managed moves, admissions, social services and police referrals etc.
  • Manage and lead on CPOMS system in school including staff training, liaison with Trust and generating timely reports.
  • Attend exclusion meetings, assisting the school with the preparation of the case for exclusion, if necessary.
  • Be a key person working with the Access & Inclusion, Personal Development & Climate for Learning teams as well as other named persons as required on the successful integration of pupils into the school.
  • Provide bespoke whole staff training on current Child Protection issues for the school, raising awareness of current safeguarding / child protection issues, monitoring staff training records to ensure up to date.
  • Promote that all students and young people are happy, healthy, safe, and successful and achieve economic wellbeing.
  • Develop, Co-ordinate and / or deliver any appropriate intervention to children and families that has been identified.
  • Act as an advocate for pupils, developing and delivering interventions, supporting and advising staff as required.
  • Create and deliver safeguarding assemblies and tutorials to be used in school.   
  • Work with the pastoral teams, safer schools policing partners and leadership to actively engage parents and young people in school life.
  • Responsible for the communication of child/family issues to be passed to appropriate staff for CP and CiN children.
  • Assist families in accessing school specific benefits, including; free school meal applications, referrals to food banks and associated charities.
  • Will liaise between the school and other agencies involved with vulnerable children, particularly Social Services and the Police
  • Where appropriate liaise with the Headteacher and DSL about issues which arise, especially ongoing enquiries under section 47 of the Children Act 1989 and police investigations.
  • Deputise for the Designated Safeguarding Lead when required with support from senior leaders in school.
  • Coordinate the allocation of any counsellors who practise in the School.
  • Undertake home visits for targeted pupils on a regular basis.
  • Work with the Access & Inclusion team to complete Personal Education Plans for looked after children in line with signs of safety guidance and Educational Health Care Plans and referrals for SMEH.
  • Will monitor the attendance and progress of identified vulnerable children working with families to support them in school
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils, assisting with the integration of new pupils into school, especially where a managed move, CP case / CiN.
  • Support, uphold the Trust’s equal rights policies and practices in respect of both employment issues and delivery of services to the community.
  • Develop and assist school support staff in creating an atmosphere in school which is welcoming to parents/carers; collating and arranging appropriate displays; helping parents feel comfortable in engaging with the school and ensure up to date information is provided to school administration and teachers in relation to research articles and handouts for parents.
  • Ensure that a high level of confidentiality
  • Will maintain accurate, confidential, secure and up-to-date documentation on all cases of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Be vigilant and sensitive to any child protection/safeguarding concerns that arise, when required and reporting any concerns to the designated officer in line with school policy and procedure
  • Deal with any issues, immediate problems or emergencies that arise in line with school policies and procedures liaising with colleagues where necessary e.g. dealing with a sick, injured or distressed child
