The positions vary in length from a part day/full day to a few days or weeks or even a maternity cover or ongoing sickness absence.
Nursery Nurses are required to have the following qualifications or equivalent : CACHE level 3 in Childcare and Education, BTEC National Diploma in Children’s Care, learning and development, NVQ level 3 in Children’s Care, learning and development and will be expected to work unsupervised. Nursery Assistants are required to have either a CACHE level 2 Certificate in Childcare and Education, City and Guilds or BTEC certificate in Children’s care, learning and development or NVQ level 2 in Children’s Care or the equivalent and will be supervised. Hours of work in private day Nurseries can often be long as many establishments open early and close late. Work in school will of course follow the pattern of the school day – you may be required to stay for a short period after school to assist the teacher and will be expected to arrive at the school at approximately 8.30.
Work involves general nursery nurse duties such as the:
- supervision of play, games, arts, crafts, and story time
- physical care of the child including feeding and changing
